A series exploring the intimacy of observation and idleness by artist Greta Kresse. Kresse is a plein-air painter based in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She received her BA from Hendrix College and is currently pursuing an MFA at the University of Arkansas. Her work investigates themes of isolation and beauty in everyday life. “Idling” considers the car as a poetic space where the boundaries between outside and inside are constantly renegotiated:

“These paintings merge the landscape and the intimacy of windows through the framing of the car, bridging the two realms I’ve typically explored separately. The car becomes a meditation on transition, on existing simultaneously here and elsewhere. These paintings capture essential tensions: departure and return, risk and safety, what we owe to place versus what we desire, all while waiting for something larger to unfold.”

Greta Kresse is featured in Tomorrow’s Talent 5, out now!
