Marvel literally silenced Sadie Sink from revealing her Spider-Man: Brand New Day character. The Stranger Things alum attempted to share her mysterious role in a new teaser, but a well-timed spider web said otherwise.

Sadie Sink teases her mysterious Spider-Man: Brand New Day character

The official Spider-Man account on X posted a teaser video on July 22 featuring Sadie Sink. In the clip, she begins to reveal her Brand New Day character before a spider web graphic covers her mouth. “Hi, my name is Sadie Sink, and I play…” she says, with the reveal blocked out. The post has already accumulated nearly 964,000 views.

Meanwhile, fans are now speculating that Sink is playing Jean Grey in the film. Notably, many point to the grey sweater she wears in the teaser as a deliberate hint. The theory gained traction quickly across social media, with multiple users connecting the clothing choice to the X-Men character’s name.

In a separate interview with Collider, the Stranger Things alum compared Marvel’s secrecy to her previous franchise experience. “I can’t even say who I’m playing, which is pretty extreme,” Sink said. She added that the volume of fan theories has been entertaining to follow. “There was a new character every day, it seemed,” she noted about the online speculation.

Other theories about her role have ranged from Spider-Girl to Firestar and Gwen Stacy. However, Sink confirmed that Marvel was transparent with her about the role from the start. “I had a good sense of what I’d be doing,” she said.

The actress also revealed that she learned about the casting in an unusual way. She first saw fan theories online claiming she had joined the film. The actual call from Marvel came just two days later. “That was just wild to go from reading something to it actually being a possibility,” Sink explained.

Destin Daniel Cretton directs Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which also stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, and Mark Ruffalo. The film opens in theaters on July 31.
