A long-term photo project about protest by London-based photographer João Daniel Pereira. For the past five years Pereira has been following the energy of these crowds, utilizing an intuitive approach that sees him move through the emotions of the moment rather than try to control what he finds. Trusting the process, Pereira remains present, open—allowing scenes to reveal themselves through tension, stillness, anger, grief, solidarity and release.
“Nature is one of my main points of reference. In nature, harmony does not come from order, it emerges through diversity, collision, adaptation and chaos. I see protest in a similar way: disruptive on the surface, but often driven by a collective movement towards repair, visibility and change.”
