Virtual Reality offers a chance to simulate situations you may not normally find yourself in, and the Muskingum County Farm Bureau is bringing that chance to the county fair next month.
The bureau has purchased VR equipment and software to simulate carpentry, agricultural training, and welding. Something Bradi Rex has tried first hand in preparation for the fair.
“So I’ve just put it on and you the, the controllers and you, I’ve done some welding, I’ve done, when I first got it, before we bought the software, I played like a fishing game just to get myself use to the controls and everything. It’s really cool. Definitely a whole new world and there’s a lot to learn about it and there’s a lot of different ways you can implement it and learn about it and I’m learning something new everyday, ” said Rex, an intern for the bureau.
This access to VR also showcases real life applications that are starting to be seen more commonly in the agricultural industry.
“Farmers can implement this as well as companies. So, it decreases the amount of, like, costs. So, like, if you are training somebody, it’s less expensive in the long run. It also diminishes the need for like having an expert right there with you. Like, you can utilize the expert through the virtual reality,” Rex said.
The Muskingum County Farm Bureau can be found in the 3 Gables Building during fair week each day from 11 to 3 offering a wide range of activities. According to Rex VR will be available from 11 a.m. to noon and from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.. More information can be found on the Muskingum County Farm Bureau’s website and on their Facebook page.
